Restaurant August Gets Top Billing in Zagat

First New Orleans Zagat Guide since Katrina

Zagat has come out with its first New Orleans restaurant guide since Hurricane Katrina, and a strong favorite rose right to the top: 

Chef John Besh’s Restaurant August was ranked Number 1 in New Orleans for both Food and Service.  The review was studded with adjectives from “spectacular” [referring to the European cuisine with a touch of the bayou] to “blissed out,” [referring to the guests.]  Specially noted were the “daring menu showcasing pristine local ingredients,” “the presentations so beautiful you hesitate to mess up the plate,” the “drop-dead gorgeous” interior, and the “warm, knowledgeable staff.”  Considering that Besh won the James      Beard Award for Best Chef in the Southeast in 2006, this new accolade may not be so much   a surprise, as icing on the cake.
