1001 Ways to Decorate a
Guest Room
Ira and Sylvia Seret
The luxurious hotel, The Inn of The
Five Graces, which bore a different name twelve years ago, Seret’s 1001 Nights,
was the brainchild of two visionaries and creative talents, Ira and Sylvia Seret,
who set out to build an enchanting bed and breakfast in Santa Fe. It was
originally conceived as a venue to showcase their extraordinary collection of
antiques, textiles, and carpets, in the confines of intimate suites, combined
with the brilliant multicultural patterns and textures of Central and South Asia
with the historic adobe architecture of Santa Fe. Resulting in what has become
the internationally recognized “Seret Style,” the eclectic artifacts of the East
encouraged magazines such as Architectural Digest to feature this
much-admired design taking form in the West.
In a unique arrangement, Garrett
Hotel Group leased the property in November 2002, thus combining the Serets’
creative genius and Garrett Hotel Group’s consummate approach to hospitality to
create what is now the jewel of hotels in Santa Fe, The Inn of The Five Graces.
With the creative collaboration of
the Serets and the Garretts, The Inn of The Five Graces has continued to evolve
over the last six years toward a deeper experience of luxury and elegant
aesthetic. In addition to the richly appointed rooms and suites featuring Ira
Seret-designed dhurrie, kilim and carpet-upholstered furniture, Sylvia Seret has
drawn from her extensive travels and vivid imagination to design the
one-of-a-kind mosaic-tiled bathrooms gracing each suite. Each highlights a
specific theme – Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, Native American, Tibetan, and Turkish
–and draws hidden details represented in those cultures.
From the richly embroidered coverlets
adorning the beds and commissioned rug-upholstered furniture to the antique
carved columns, archways and stone panels, each magnificent element featured at
The Inn of The Five Graces can be found at the Serets’ 70,000 square-foot
historic storehouse, a five minute walk from The Inn of The Five Graces and
bordering on the oldest neighborhood in Santa Fe. This world class collection
of thousands of carpets, architectural artifacts, inlaid tables,
doors, and Tibetan furniture displays the
Serets’ international sensibility and places centuries of exquisite handiwork
along the Silk Road into new contexts for living. The Serets have helped
redefine Santa Fe style and have made Santa Fe a source for the finest
design elements that revel in color, celebrate culture, and encourage a feast
for the five senses.
The Point,
Lake Placid Lodge, and The Inn of The Five Graces, all operated by The Garrett
