The Five Senses Meet The Five Graces

The desert of the American Southwest is a feast for the senses, awash with super-saturated color in the bright sunshine; alive with the sounds of nature, music, and native drumbeats; and piquant with ancient flavors prized by tribes of Native Americans and those from the Old World introduced by Spanish colonists. The Inn of The Five Graces is seeking to indulge each of your five senses - one at a time. Working closely with local experts in old Santa Fe, we have put together a series of special packages to focus a particular sense - Sight, Taste and Smell, Sound, and Touch. Three weeks' advance booking is required for all packages.

Sight A private photography lesson for two with an accomplished Santa Fe photographer will focus your vision of this dramatic area of the country like nothing else. Spend an intensive half-day with an instructor at the Santa Fe Workshops, one of the finest photographic educational centers in the country. Choose to work in either digital, black and white, or landscape formats, using your own camera or borrowing one from the Workshops. One-on-one instruction will ensure that no matter your level of expertise when you set out, you will emerge at the end of the day with a far greater understanding of your camera-craft…and - a stunning set of photographs as an artistic documentation of your visit.

Fee: $500

Taste and Smell Santa Fe is renowned for its distinctive regional cuisine that the rest of the country has embraced whole-heartedly. Yet many of us rely on restaurants to provide us with the flavors, colors, and textures of this colorful cuisine when we crave it - as often we do. Let The Inn of The Five Graces arrange a private cooking class for two with noted chef John Vollertsen of Las Cosas Cooking School. The class, beginning in the afternoon, will take place in the charming home kitchen of a local Santa Fe artist, not a professional environment, to keep the lesson "realistic." In the evening, dine with the chef on the fruits of your labors - wine pairings included. The Inn will provide transportation to and from your New Mexican culinary adventure.

Fee: $1,250

Sound Enhance your sense of sound with a private concert for two at The Awakening Museum, a stunning space dedicated to the power of art to uplift, inspire, and enlighten. The Inn of The Five Graces will arrange for an hour-long concert program by a renowned musical soloist or vocalist performing with The Santa Fe Opera. If you like, provide a "wish list" for your custom concert program, or, let the musician perform what his or her heart desires. Either way, a compact disk featuring some of the music from the performance will be provided as a souvenir of your concert. This package is limited to the opera season, July through September, with some exceptions.

Fee: $1,000

Touch Of all the senses, the specialized abilities that enable us to experience the world around us, touch is one of the most-repressed and least-nurtured. Awaken your sense of touch in the downtown Santa Fe studio of Heidi Loewen, an accomplished sculptor, porcelain artist, and teacher. Loewen is a master, and her art has been exhibited extensively throughout the American west, but she will start from scratch helping to reacquaint you with the joys of touch through working with clay. In a private half-day workshop, Loewen will demonstrate classical wheel-thrown vessels, share techniques for fine results in porcelain work, and walk you through the creation of an object of your own, which will then be dried, glazed, fired, and delivered to you upon your return home. No experience is necessary - but a sense of humor is essential - for this two-person package.

Fee: $750
