Lake Placid, New York – In the summer of 2008, this historic Relais &
Châteaux resort on the shores of Lake Placid, sister property to The Point,
will unveil a brand new main lodge, completely rebuilt in the spirit and
style of the original 1882 structure that was destroyed by fire in 2005, but
incorporating 21st-century efficiency and safety measures.
Meanwhile, as reconstruction progresses, The Lodge is operating with twelve
guest cabins, while other cabins have been comfortably re-fitted to serve as
dining room, gallery, pub, and reception. Lake Placid Lodge has
ranked on Condé Nast Traveler’s “Gold List,” for five consecutive
years. It is also a regular on the “T&L 500,” Travel & Leisure
magazine’s annual list of the 500 greatest hotels and resorts in the world.
Nestled in the heart of the Adirondacks, Lake Placid Lodge offers all
the natural splendor one would expect from the location: inside, as
well as out. Not only is the Lodge ideally situated for the appreciation of
the great outdoors, it is strikingly furnished in rustic style with the
finely crafted work of local master artisans and designers; in fact, Lake
Placid Lodge houses the largest collection of Adirondack works in the
country. For visitors wanting to take the look home, each piece is available
for purchase or custom order. Lake Placid is world-famous for hosting the
Winter Olympic Games in both 1932 and 1980, and the nearby sports facilities
offer guests a rare opportunity for private instruction with Olympic
trainers and athletes. Before and after the day’s activities, the acclaimed
restaurant at the Lake Placid Lodge serves innovative New American
cuisine, using local organic farmhouse products.
