Christie C. Garrett

As founding partner and Senior Vice President of The Garrett Hotel Group, Christie Garrett oversees architectural and landscape design for the company. Her role also encompasses management of all new projects and construction, supervises all physical renovations of existing properties, and managing the details that will have an impact on the guest experience.

A graduate of the University of Vermont, Mrs. Garrett has also completed advanced studies in Landscape Design at Radcliffe College.

At the start of her career, Mrs. Garrett was affiliated with a landscape design firm in Burlington, Vermont, later moving to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she worked as a designer and draftsman for Monacelli Associates. At Monacelli Associates, she was responsible for the drawings, graphics, and visuals for a 24-acre urban redevelopment project in downtown Cambridge. Following that, she established a consulting firm, working with clients like Sasaki Associates, Herman & Lees, Inc., and Graham Gunned on urban design projects.

Returning to Vermont in 1983, Mrs. Garrett worked for Idea USA, an architectural firm specializing in large-scale projects in the Middle East. Many of the firm’s projects were commissioned for the Saudi Royal family. Offered a partnership after two years, she declined, deciding instead to devote her attention to The Point.

With the strong desire to make The Point’s guest experience exceptional, Mrs. Garrett took a sabbatical to London. There she studied the interconnection between landscape and theatre set design, using what she learned as a basis for understanding guest perception and enjoyment in a small, intimate hotel. Her sabbatical included work with internationally renowned Maria Bjornson, designer of Phantom of the Opera

Following her sabbatical, Mrs. Garrett returned to the United States, joining the internationally recognized landscape architect Dan Kiley. Concurrently Mrs. Garrett continued her intensive involvement with The Point, overseeing the interior renovations, landscapes design, and amenities upgrades.

After the purchase of Lake Placid Lodge in 1994, Mrs. Garrett joined The Garrett Hotel Group full-time to oversee all aspects of the design, renovation, and construction of that project. The radiant restoration of the historic Willcox, The Garrett Group’s most recent historic acquisition in Aiken, South Carolina, was likewise her responsibility.  Today, her creative talents are evident in all the company’s hotels, resulting in superb guest experience and glowing ratings from the public and the hospitality industry.

The Point, Lake Placid Lodge and The Inn of The Five Graces, all operated by The Garrett Hotel Group, are members of Relais & Châteaux, the prestigious international association of privately owned hotels and restaurants embodying the highest culinary standards and the French “art de vivre.”
